Agra is situated on the banks of Yamuna River between Mathura and Surajpur in the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. The fort of Agra used to be the royal fort of the Mughal Empire in history. This fort is also included in the UNESCO World Heritage Site and it is situated only 1.5 kilometers away from the famous Taj Mahal of Agra. This fort is often known as the city of walls.

Mughal emperor Babur made Agra the capital in 1526. After this, it was the capital of the Mughal Empire till 1658. The Mughal rulers were very interested in construction. This is why many excellent constructions can be seen in Agra. In that period, every king made grand towers to do better than their ancestors.

Historical monuments and buildings are the main attractions of Agra. In addition to the Taj Mahal, you can also visit the fort of Agra and the tomb of Akbar on the banks of river Yamuna. Agra’s climate is extreme. In summers it is very hot and it is cold in winter. During the summer (April to July), the temperature reaches to 46° C and the temperature in winter is amidst 22 to 5 degrees C. There is heavy rainfall in the monsoon season from July to September in the city.
